Hayashi Rice is almost as well known as Japanese curry, and it is even easier to make. For a whole package (suitable for a family of 2 adults and 3 children) you will need:
800 gr rice
450-600 gr thinly sliced beef
600 gr onion
720 ml of water
1 package S&B Torokeru Haiyashi
Prepare the rice and cook them according to the recipe. Cut the onions into wide strips:
Cut the meat into shorter pieces:
Put some oil in a pot and sauté the onions until they're transparent:
Add the meat:
Fry until well done:
Add the water:
Bring it to a boil over even heat and simmer for 20 minutes. When meat foam is formed, this must be skimmed off:
If the dish has boiled under a lid, there should still be enough moisture left. If it has boiled without a lid, add 2-300 ml more water, the contents must just be covered with water, otherwise there is too little.
Take the blocks of hayashi out of the package and break them apart before removing the foil. Then remove the foil:
Turn off the heat and put the contents of the package in the pot:
Stir until the blocks are completely dissolved and turn the heat back on to low heat. Cook for approx. 5 minutes while stirring:
The rice should also be ready by this time and an appropriate amount is served on a deep plate before placing the hayashi on top. Enjoy!
