Niku means meat, and jyaga is short for jyagaimo, which means potatoes. So it's meat with potatoes that the name of this dish points to. At the same time it almost sounds like Mick Jagger, so it's easy to remember. What you need is:
400 gr thinly sliced pork
4 large baking potatoes
4 carrots
1 large onion
400 ml of water
60 ml of soy sauce
60 gr og sugar
60 ml of mirin
60 ml of white wine
15 gr of Shimaya Dashi no moto (3 sachets)
1 bag of Shimonita Shirataki Shiro
But you can adjust both sugar and soy sauce according to taste.
Start by cutting the meat in shorter lengths:
Fry it in a bit of oil in a large pot at medium heat:
While it's frying, cut the onion in strips, peel carrots and potatoes, and cut them in smaller bits:
When the meat is cooked, add the vegetables:
While it's frying for a few minutes, drain the water from the shirataki noodles, and cut them in shorter pieces:
Now add all other ingredients except the shirataki:
Let it boil for a bit, and if meat foam is formed on top, remove it. After this, the shirataki is added:
Stir everything well, take a suitable piece of aluminium foil and wrinkle it up a few times, then place it on top of the dish:
Let the dish simmer at medium heat for about 20 minutes, remove the foil, stir a bit, and serve. Best enjoyed with freshly cooked rice and miso soup. Enjoy!
