Karaage is deep fried pieces of chicken, which we're making here in a vegetarian version using tofu. It's also super tasty and a bit healthier. What you need is:
1 pack of House Premium Tofu Soft which has been frozen and thawed again
15 ml soy sauce
15 ml of white wine
1 teaspoon of sesam oil
1 teaspoon of grated ginger
1 teaspoon of crushed garlic
Potato flour
Oil for deep frying
Start by breaking the tofu into smaller bits and squeeze the liquid out of them, so they are shaped into eggs shaped balls:
Start heating the oil in a pot or tall frying pan at medium heat. Mix the other ingredients in a bowl and mix it thoroughly. Soak each tofu ball in the micture quickly, it cannot soak for long as there won't be enough for all of them, then. Place them all in a tray or a large plate and spread potato flour on top:
Turn them carefully, so they are fully covered, but don't break. When the oil is hot enough, place a suitable amount of tofu balls in it, they need some space to move around:
If the oil bubbles violently, it's too hot, and then you need to turn the heat down. Let the balls fry until they float on top and are golden brown:
Let them dry on a piece of kitchen paper and serve immediately. Enjoy!
